Judge Expands Domestic Violence Act to Cover Elder Abuse

Victims of elder abuse can use the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act to obtain restraining orders against their abusers, a New Jersey judge has ruled in a case of first impression.

Although elder abuse is not a category specified in the Domestic Violence Act, it is clear that public policy allows for victims of such abuse to use the act to their benefit, Ocean County Superior Court Judge Lawrence Jones said in J.C. v.
